A Language For Intimacy
At the outset of the Covid-19 shut down I found myself questioning how the impact of the pandemic on the practice and concept of intimacy would reverberate into the future. Together with collaborator Terence Trouillot, I curated and produced a digital art exhibition exploring this question of intimacy as impacted by two of the defining elements of 2020: the virus and the movement for Black lives.
This exhibition paired artists with writers who expanded on the visual and auditory works, setting this show apart from other digital exhibitions. It was presented by Abrons Arts Center and Boston Center for the Arts in partnerships that I secured, made possible by funding from grants and sponsors. The curatorial statement can be found at alanguageforintimacy.com.
The exhibition included artworks by Elliott Jerome Brown Jr., Tomás Díaz Cedeño, Jesse Chun, Sougwen Chung, Rachel Devorah, Jesse Draxler, DonChristian Jones, Sophie Kahn, and Jeremy Toussaint-Baptiste; and texts by Erica N. Cardwell, Noah Dillon, Ladi’Sasha Jones, Danilo Machado, Shanekia McIntosh, Amelia Rina, Mebrak Tareke, Claire Voon, and myself.
